A talented craftsperson with no capital is often a craftsperson forced to give up her craft. Support-A-Artisan is our program of small, fair loans for women artisans — the modest, patient capital they need to buy materials, build their stock, and earn from work done with their own hands. For many, it is the first time anyone has trusted them with the means to grow.
Why small loans matter
Across India, unemployment is high and even skilled, well-educated people struggle when they have no capital and no marketplace. Rural artisans are hit hardest: they may practise a craft their families have kept for generations, yet without money to buy raw materials they cannot produce, and without a buyer their goods sit unsold. Many close their workshops and look for work instead.
A loan changes that arithmetic. It turns skill back into production, and production back into income. Because it is repaid, a loan also returns value to the program — so the same money can support another artisan, and another, in a cycle that keeps working.

How it works
Through our artisan networks, we identify women who already have skill but lack the means to use it. Each loan is small, specific and tied to her work — materials for a set of orders, a piece of equipment that raises what she can make. She repays as she earns, and as she repays, the fund refills for the next artisan. Where a craft is at risk of vanishing, this support also keeps a family’s heritage alive.
What success looks like
Success is an artisan who keeps practicing her craft, sells what she makes, repays her loan and earns a steady income. It is a workshop that stays open rather than closing, a skill passed on rather than lost, and a woman who is no longer dependent on others for her daily needs. We track loans made, repayment, and the income artisans earn — but the real measure is dignity: work she can call her own, on her own terms.
